What is Software Testing?

Testing is a process use Software bugs will almost always exist in any software module with moderate size: not because programmers are careless or irresponsible, but because the complexity of software is generally intractable to help identify the correctness, completeness and quality of developed computer software.
Regardless of the limitations, testing is an integral part in software development. It is broadly deployed in every phase in the software development cycle. Typically, more than 50% percent of the development time is spent in testing.
Job Opportunities in Software Testing

“The Software Testing Industry employs about 1,30,000 people, and this number is likely to grow with industry demands”.
The interesting part of these past 5-6 years has been that the testing industry grew at about 47-48% CAGR (compounded angle growth rate).
$9 billion worth of business is majorly done by large number of corporations ranging from tier-1 companies like TCS, Wipro , CTS, HCL, Mahindra Satyam more.
The out sourced testing field if you look worldwide is estimated to be USD 59billion worth of business across multiple industry segments, ranging from banking and financial services to high end engineering activities like avionics.
Why Software Testing

  • To discover defects
  • To avoid user detecting problems
  • To prove that the software has no faults
  • To learn about the reliability of the software
  • To avoid being sued by customers
  • To ensure that product works as user expected
  • To stay in business
  • To detect defects early, which helps in reducing the cost of defect fixing?
